:Komen for the Cure:

Last Sunday, I was fortunate enough to run my first ever 5k. I say fortunate, because it was for a cause that is extremely close to my heart or should I say breasts. That's right, I said it.....it's close to my breasts or more importantly to the breasts that my mother lost. I am more than thankful that's all she lost. What a better way to start off your running 'career' than to run the Komen for a Cure to honor your mother {a breast cancer survivor}. My husband's company so graciously sponsored our team {or should I say, I sponsored it with the company's money?.....it pays to be the administrative director} .....in all seriousness, our little 4 person team raised over $1,300 in a little over a month! I couldn't be prouder of the girls that were a part of this team, and I cannot wait for next year....oh wait, that's right!! I'm running Milwaukee's Komen for the Cure at the end of September! Pictured below is a picture of Mr. FlipSide Graphics {team sponsor} aka my husband, Russ, and our youngest son, Austin with me before the race. Our oldest son, Alex, was with his grandparents.

The picture above is of the lovely girls that made up this year's team for the Central WI Komen Race for the Cure. The girls all walked the 1 mi family walk while I ran the 5k. From left: Brenda Michiel, Dawn Kramer {who happens to be my momma and also happened to have laparoscopic gallbladder surgery on Friday evening [40 hrs prior] but still came out to cheer us on}, myself, and Bridget Lykins. Bridget and Brenda are both cousins of mine and were awesome teammates! I cannot wait for next year and hope these ladies {and some more of you} will join us. I saw an 'in memory' sign that read: "I run so my daughter won't have to" and I couldn't agree more! There were over 2200 participants in this year's event which was the first ever to come to our area!! I couldn't be prouder to be a part of something so worthwhile!
